The Union Jack occupies the top third of the flag, the crown represents the court of King Edward VIII.
The three blue on white stripes represents the Pacific ocean. The sun signifies that British Columbia's
location is the most westerly province of Canada. The shield was designed by Rev. Arthur John Beanlands.

Flower: Pacific Dogwood
The Pacific Dogwood was adopted as British Columbia's floral emblem in 1956.
It is actually a tree that grows 6 to 8 meters tall. Small cream to greenish flowers grow in bunches
and are surrounded by large pointed leaves. It is against the law to harm this tree in B.C.
