The sun signifies that British Columbia's location is the most westerly province of Canada. The shield was designed by Rev. Arthur John Beanlands.

Flower: Pacific Dogwood

british columbia's flower The Pacific Dogwood was adopted as British Columbia's floral emblem in 1956. It is actually a tree that grows 6 to 8 meters tall. Small cream to greenish flowers grow in bunches and are surrounded by large pointed leaves. It is against the law to harm this tree in B.C.
