Need to find out a quick fact about Canada? This is the place to find it. Our statistics and numbers are compiled from statistics
Canada, and are chosen to reflect what young Canadians might need to know. So go ahead and learn a little something about
your country.
The Name Canada comes from the Native word "kanata" or settlement. Canada: Independent nation (2005 est. pop. 32,805,041), 3,851,787 sq mi (9,976,128 sq km), North, North America. Canada occupies all of
North America North of the United States (and East of Alaska) except for Greenland and the French islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon.
It is bounded on the East by the Atlantic Ocean, on the North by the Arctic Ocean, and on the West by the Pacific Ocean and Alaska.
A transcontinental border, formed in part by the Great Lakes, divides Canada from the United States; Nares and Davis straits
separate Canada from Greenland. The Arctic Archipelago extends far into the Arctic Ocean.
